Food & Drink
The traditional meze (appetizers) is usually something of everything that is available that day in the restaurant as ,many as 30 dishes, starting with salad, then come the traditional hot dishes like haloumi, mousaka, afelia, stifado, souvlaki, seiftalia and calamari, ending with sweet. Good but inexpensive wines accompany the meat, and as a finale, try a local brandy with a cup of Cypriot coffee.

Shopping in Paphos
Stores are generally open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2.30 to 5.30 p.m., except Wednesday and Saturday when they are open only in the morning. In the summer, the afternoon hours are 4 to 7. Specialties include handmade Lefkaritika lace, silver and copperware, shoes and leather goods and pottery.

Places of Interest
The whole town of Paphos is included in the official UNESCO list of cultural and natural treasures of the World Cultural Heritage List. There are many places to visit in Paphos during your stay and all within easy reach from Matsas Villas.

Tombs of the Kings
Spread over the vast area, these impressive underground tombs, carved out of solid rock date back to the 4th century B.C.

The Mosaics of Paphos
The mosaic floors date back to the 3rd to the 5th century A.D. and are considered among the finest in the Eastern Mediterranean. They mainly depict scenes from Greek Mythology.

Paphos Odeon
A small 2nd century Odeon built entirely of well- hewn limestone blocks, it is now used in the summer for musical and theatrical performances.

Palaipafos
Palaipafos,Old Pafos, was one of the most celebrated pilgrimage centres of the ancient Greek world, and once city-kingdom of Cyprus. Here stood the famous Sanctury of Aphrodite, the most ancient remains of which date back to the 12th century B.C.

Petra Tou Romiou
According to legend, Aphrodite goddess of love and beauty rose from the waves in this strikingly beautiful spot. · Paphos Mediaeval Fort Originally a Byzantine fort built to protect the habour, it was rebuilt by the Lusignans in the 13th century dismantled by the Venetians in 1570 and rebuilt by the Ottomans after they captured the island in the 16th century.

Kourion
An important ancient city-kingdom and one of the most spectacular archaeological sites on the island where excavations still bring new treasures to light. The magnificent Greco-Roman Theatre was originally built in the 2nd century B.C. and is now fully restored and used for musical and theatrical performances.

Kolossi Castle
A fine example of military architecture originally constructed in the 13th century and subsequently rebuilt in its present form in the middle of the 15th century.

Kykko Monastery
The country’s most famous monastery was founded in 1100 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
